RIP Fluffy 1995-2010 Jun. 11th, 2010 @ 08:25 pm

My Mom's and then my cat died today. Was in slowly declining health for a while, so no great surprise, but still sad.

Long Weekend Feb. 16th, 2009 @ 07:30 pm
Was busy all weekend, left Friday right after I got home from work.  Then drove down to Providence, RI to attend the Fetish Fair Fleamarket.  And catch up a bit with Frost Elf, [info]foxkitten and [info]kamberlane.
Was great to see them, and hoped to hang out with them longer, they were busy working for a dealer and I had to run of to make the Boston Sci-Fi Marathon the next day. Only missed 1 1/2 movie this time, ah the wonder of energy drinks.
The rundown this year;

Alien Trespass - A very fun parody of 50's sci-fi, with archival footage of it's finding after having been "lost for 50" years.

It Came From Outer Space  - Have I mentioned a HATE 3D movies, mainly looks blurry to me, and this is in blue/red 3D.  Other than that a fun movie and the main one that Alien Trespass seems to be making fun of.

Chrysalis - Dull, dull, dull, oh, god it was dull. Just keeps your interest enough to make you curious on what is going to happen.

Logan's Run  - A favorite and this was the first time I've seen it completely uncut and on a big screen.

Runaway - Really, really bad, and not in a good way. Went out to dinner.

Alien Raiders - Horror/Sci-fi, pretty good, but not usually my cuppa tea.  As a fun extra the Director was there for Q&A, and stuck around to the end.

The Thing From Another World - The original and very good, very enjoyable.

Repo Man - Barely Sci-fi and just really strange.  What is in the trunk?

Invasion of the Body Snatchers - The 70's version.  I vastly prefer the original and tryed to sleep through it, but alas, I had just had one of the energy drinks before the previous movie and could not sleep for most of it.

Killer Klowns From Outer Space - A classic, and one that I found with my high school friends during one of our "Bad Movie Nights"

Transformers - The one from last year, and it did seem more comprehensible this time around. Although being a huge G1 Transformers fan I was, and still am, very dissapointed by the lage vaguely humanoid piles of scrap metal that pass as most of the Transformers. Having Peter Culler back as Optimus was a good touch, though why he wasn't asked to play Ironhide, as he did in the cartoon, as well is beyond me.

I Married a Monster From Outer Space - Went to breakfast so missed the beggining, but what I saw was enjoyable for late 50's Sci-fi.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - Still the best Star Trek movie and most likely will be even after the re-boot. And yes, the entire audience went "KHAAAAAAAAN!!"

Got home soon after and slept for a bit.  Still tired, but a good, if very busy weekend.

Big changes at work Feb. 3rd, 2009 @ 05:21 pm
For those who don't know I work at a call center.  Today the entire staff was taken off the phones and brought to a meeting.  They are moving to an entire at home work force for the center I work at.  Giving people the choice of:
1. Working from home.
2 Relocating to another call center. (None in the area.) or find another job in a different part of the company. (There are essentially none in the area.)
3. Taking a severance package and leaving the company. (Job market sucks.)

So we, my boyfriend and roommate also work there, will be working from home.  The problem is that we don't live in a very big apartment, and we all, especially me, have a lot of "stuff". A bunch will have to go into storage, definitely the bookcase of role-playing books that I haven't used in years, other than that will have to see.

So a bunch of stress going on at work right now.  They did let a bunch of go home early, which is just as well as I couldn't concentrate very well on the job.

Good news is that I got my tax refund checks back already, and am going to New York Comic Con this weekend. Hopefully the Con will help me de-stress, and am planning on stopping by FAO Schwartz to get a Muppet Whatnot or two made.

Got a Haircut Feb. 1st, 2009 @ 12:13 am
Not the most earth shattering news, but it has been over a decade since I last got my hair professionally cut.

These are just a couple of quick snaps right after it was done.

All is well here, just hung out today, watched TV, mainly the Mythbusters marathon.

Not much in the way of presents.  Not as much money this year, but that's OK.

Coming down with a bit of a sinus cold, not making me very happy right now. Ug. :P
» A death in the family
I just found out a couple of hours ago that my Mom had passed away last night.  I have since left work and will probably not be returning until next week after the funeral.

This was not unexpected,  she has been suffering with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's for many years.  Went into the hospital  about 2 weeks ago and hasn't been eating.

Not entirely sure how I feel...  seeing how the day goes.

Had more fun this year.  Actually got to meet a couple of creator's whose work I greatly enjoy.
Met the animator Bill Plympton ,  from who I bought a copy of "The Tune" from which he autographed and did a little sketch for me.  Also met the comic artist Steve "the Dude" Rude, artist of Nexus which he is now self publishing after a ten year gap.  He asked me to write a leeter to the comic as they need letters and he was wonder about that point of view from a female fan.

Other than that just the usual fun of wandering around seeing what was for sale, or better, being given away.  Then going the next day to the japanese supermarket and food court for lunch.

Also bought a couple more board games, "Last Night on Earth" and "Wings of War".  Apparently I am trying to see how fast I can get to 200... have over a hundred now.  The entire collection is here.

I actually posted something to jamiekswriter's blog and she asked what's been going on in my life so a bit of detail:

As far as what's going on. Just existing right now, lack of car has turned my 8 hour workdays into 12 hour workdays. Have a possible lead on a car, so see how that turns out.  I just want to pay about $500 for car that will run forever with no maintenance, or why my car's rarely last a year...

Other than that reading I've been manga (ROD, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Fruits Basket are main ones)and watching Anime (ROD the TV, Fullmetal Alchemist, Pretty Cure, Ojamajo Doremi, Haibane Renmei) and collecting anime dolls (Before the car I was making enough to start to be able to afford the more expensive, $100 or so, dolls).  Planning on customizing some to make at least Yomiko Readman from ROD and would like to do the main cast of Secret of Blue Water.  Also been making some 1/6 props for the dolls, the main one is a Japanese school desk, needs some tweaking but came out good. Also have made a bookcase and a reproduction of the computer desk I'm sitting at right now.   I'll post some pictures one I find my camera.  I cleaned out my closet and now don't know where I put it.

Haven't had time, money or the ability to get supplies lately to work on any of these projects lately so have been a bit depressed about that. And this week seemed to have a much greater quantity of stupid people that I had to deal with at work, so blah. :P

At least planning on going into Boston tomorrow to hit Pearl Paint for some supplies so hopefully will be able to work on some again.

Go see it if you have the opportunity!  Before it vanishes from the theatres before you even knew it was out.  Yet another great fantasy movie that the movie company does seem to care about or want to really advertise.  I guess because it not based on a multi-volume children's fantasy book series.
Very much alike to "Princess Bride"  A lot of humour and quite a bit of action.  Robert De Nero is great in a bit part.
Just go see it!
